Pentel Pen/Pencil Review #ShopletReviews

I received the following items in order to facilitate my review on behalf of Shoplet.com. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I can rarely find a pen in my house when I really need one. I think the kids must smuggle them into their secret hiding places. Or there is some sort of invisible pen snatcher in my house that takes them and makes magnificent art with them. Probably not, but hey it is a fun thought.

It always seems to be my favorite pens that get lost. I have a hard time gripping pens and pencils. My hand hurts and my writing winds up being atrocious if the barrel of the pen is too small. I was sent some Pentel pens/pencils to test out.

My favorite part of the EnerGel office pen is that it comes in varying point sizes. If you need to write small and with thin lines then the .5mm is the best option for you. This one was a little hard for me to write with, but did give clean small lines. The .7mm was more my styles and I liked how the ink flowed and moved across the paper so smoothly. It comes in several colors as well. Of course my favorite was pink :)

Pentel also has a line of twist erase pencils. Man these sure do bring back memories of school and clicking and clicking to get the pencil lead out. I sure went through a lot of that lead when these type of pencils were introduced, but I do love the functionality of them and not having to sharpen a pencil. The twist up eraser is a great feature in that you don't run out of eraser before you run out of lead. I wonder if my pencil loving friend Clumsy Crafter would approve of these? :)

Join me in becoming a Toxin Freedom Fighter

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Millennial Central for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating.

Have you ever thought about all the products you use to clean your home? I mean I know we all want a clean home that smells good, looks good, and is free from germs. But have you ever wondered what is in the cleaners you use on an everyday basis and what impact it may have on our environment?

I will admit that I am guilty of having more than a few products in my house that I know cannot be that great for our water supply or air. It is hard to get out of the mentality that something has to be super powerful and loaded with chemicals to be effective.  After all this is what we are taught and have been exposed to for so long that it has just become the norm.

One shocking bit of information I just learned is that there was the Toxic Substances Control Act introduced in 1976. This was meant to "help protect" the public from being exposed to toxic chemicals. The big problem is that it has not been updated in 37 years. Since then over 80K synthetic chemicals have been introduced and the EPA requires testing of less than 10% of them. That means most chemicals that are around today have never been tested to see their impact on the environment and this world that we live in.

What can we do? Seventh Generation has a petition going and is looking for 100,000 signatures by April 24, 2014 so that they can take to Congress and demand that the TSCA be re-evaluated. It may not seem like much by giving your signature to the petition, but it can be a start to helping change the way our country looks at chemicals and their impact on our lives.

My goal this year is to swap out the chemical laden cleaners in my house for ones like Seventh Generation makes. It does no good to only look at what I eat and how I exercise when I clean my house with chemicals that are making me and my family sick probably more than we know. Will you help by signing the #FightToxins petition?

Let Honey Baked Ham in for Easter, plus Giveaway

I was given a gift certificate to purchase products for this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Easter is a precious time in our families life. It is a time we reflect on all that Jesus has done for us and sacrificed for us. It is a time we can come together as a family to remember why we are here and why we are loved.

It is a time where we can show each other love and family time as well. Sure going out to hunt Easter eggs is a blast and the kids just love seeing Easter bunnies of all kinds, but it is so much more than that. I love that we can also come together as a family and share a meal. But what do you serve? How can it be a little easier so that we are not stressing over the food and we can enjoy each others company?

I am all for not making everything from scratch when it comes to big family gatherings. That way you can enjoy your time as a family, be able to talk with each other, and relax while the food bakes away. Honey Baked Ham has become a family favorite at our families gatherings. Their hams are so sweet and can feed so many people.
Best way to get a great dinner without all the work and fuss! Just enjoy your family during Easter.

If you didn't know they also have sides and desserts to choose from that can round out your Easter meal or any meal really. The sides can go straight from the freezer to the oven and be done in about an hour, all while the ham is reheating in the oven.
Make a simple salad to bring some freshness to your meal

Honey Baked Ham brings home cooking flavor and comfort to your Easter table without all the fuss and mess. The sides can be served right in their containers and then wrapped up if there are any leftovers. You can also use them to send home food with your guests in.

We got one of their smaller hams and trust me it was a lot!! With just two sides and the ham it was more than enough for 4 people with having lots of left over ham that I plan on turning into soup soon. The ham bone will make a delicious broth.

So instead of stressing about what you will serve for Easter dinner, let Honey Baked Ham help with some or even all of the food. And just between you and me, their cheesecake sampler is YUM! Don't forget that they also do Turkey!

If that wasn't enough, check out these special offers to make your Easter dinner more affordable:

New Release Caillou Talking Doll

I was sent a doll in exchange for a review, but all thoughts are my own.

Caillou is a beloved character that most of us know through watching PBS with our kids for 14 years now, but did you know that he started out as a character in a book in 1990? Geared towards kids age 2-5, Caillou (age 4) goes through situations that young kids can relate to and learn from in many ways.

From going to preschool, dealing with his cat, helping out mom and dad, and woes of having a little sibling Caillou is a character that kids can feel like they are a part of and even be one of their friends in life.

To help celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the first book, Imports Dragon and DHX Media are coming out with a new item the Talking Caillou Doll. This is the first licensed product that they are debuting leading up to the anniversary.

My kids instantly knew who was coming out of the box and wanted to play with the Caillou doll right away. They loved his backpack and put tiny toys in it for him to carry around. They had even more fun to hear all the phrases that the doll could say and did their best attempt to repeat the French words. No they had no idea what they were saying, but it was cute.

If your kid is a Caillou fan, then they will love this doll. It will start hitting store shelves this Spring so be on the lookout! MSRP $34.99

Turn the Music Up! Official 2014 ACM Awards ZinePak

I received a Zine Pack in order to facilitate this review, but all thought and opinions are my own.

Deep down I am a country music loving girl. Do I look like the typical country music girl? No, but even though I live in the burbs but I do live in Texas, so I almost can't help but love it. The Academy of Country Music is holding their awards show this Sunday and if you are wondering who might be nominated or what songs are new this year then you need to check out the Official 2014 ACM Awards ZinePak.

What is a ZinePak, you ask? It is a 120 page magazine that is every country music fans ultimate guide to what is hot this year. It contains exclusive interviews with this years nominees for Entertainer of the Year: Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, George Strait, and Taylor Swift.

I love how the magazine gives you more insight to who these artist are, their quirky personalities and some stories behind the songs. And the best part?! It has two CD's included with all the nominated songs this year. Don't think this soccer mom won't be rocking these in pick up line :)

This is a great memento that you can keep and also have all your favorite songs from each year. Another fun token is the 6 guitar picks with the Entertainer of the Year nominee pictures and signatures. It is every country music fans best way to remember the year before and the songs we have grown to love.

So will you be watching the ACM Awards this Sunday April 6th to see who will win? I know I will be and using my ZinePak to catch up on who all the artists are and little insight behind the artists :) And if you want your own ZinePak then head over to Walmart to purchase your own!

Meet Our New Puppy- Cinderella

Our kids have been wanting a dog for quite some time now. They like to pretend that their stuffed animals are real dogs, but alas it wasn't so they kept asking. Now don't get me wrong, I have wanted to get them a dog for awhile, but I also knew that it would mean a lot of work and more cleaning for me whenever we got one.

With all that our family went through last year with my cancer diagnosis and more, we were going to put off getting a dog for a while. Possibly one or two years.... But my kids and MOM kept asking if we could get one. Little Man just had his 6th birthday and while we were warming up to the idea of getting a dog, we didn't want it to be specifically for his birthday since we knew the kids would fight over whose dog it was and then the other would want one of their own as well. I definitely didn't want two dogs!!
Our first glimpse

So without telling the kids, we warmed up to the idea of finally getting a dog. We knew we were going to look in a shelter, hopefully a small one and hopefully a fairly young one, and a girl. I know, maybe a little too specific, but we started looking online at one of the local shelters and started falling in love with some of the cute faces.
Who could resist this face? Bummed we had to trim her, but it will grow back :)

We were about to go look at some dogs that were just getting weaned when I decided to look at the Houston Humane Society page. Oh man, some precious faces just stood out. One in fact was named April and was the most darling all black beauty. Then two other dogs that I was going to look at, but wasn't as sure about. When we got to the shelter, April had just been adopted. Boy was she cute. Then we looked at some of the other dogs in the puppy/small dog room including a sweet precious girl named Cinderella.
I will sleep anywhere as long as my humans are near

Yep, that is the name she came in with... Cinderella.. She had this cute scruffy face and long legs that just touched my heart. We could only see one dog a day to help prevent spreading anything so we decided to see Cinderella. She instantly loved on my kids and was so happy and sweet. We decided quickly that she was the one. Little man wasn't too sure because he wanted to see all the puppies more, but I knew I didn't want to lose her.
Her new buddy is quickly getting to big to carry

She had her spay surgery the next day and we were able to pick her up about 3 days later. Since then we have been getting to know each other, doing some house training, and learning how to live with a new little one in the house.
I love to snuggle

Cinderella has been a great addition to our family and I am so glad that she is ours. She is slowly learning to go potty outside and she is never short on love and puppy kisses. She likes to sleep close so that she knows someone is near and is quickly growing and running faster and faster with the kids.
Just play with me you silly boy!

She will probably wind up being bigger than we were hoping, but I don't care. She was meant to be ours and we love her. Funny enough, my husbands first dog was named Cinder so she really does fit. So that is what we are calling Cinderella(mainly so I don't have to be saying her full name all the time).

So next time you are thinking about getting a dog(or cat) make sure you visit your local shelters and rescue a sweet one that deserves your love.
